The Charles County Commissioners are seeking county residents who want to get involved in their community to fill vacancies on two recently established boards.
The Commission of Future Leaders was formed to identify programs and services needed for the youth in Charles County. The board’s goal is to raise awareness of issues effecting young and emerging adults; serve as a conduit between County Government and the community; advocate for programs, education and legislation that directly affect young and emerging adults; and serve as active leaders in their community focusing on research, community meetings, and surveys. High school students, college students and recent college graduates who have received their degree within the last five years may apply.
The Rural Planning and Zoning Task Force has been formed to identify regulatory challenges that undermine the preservation of the county’s rural heritage and provide recommendations that would strengthen the rural heritage through initiatives aimed at promoting new opportunities for existing and proposed farming, agricultural, and agritourism-related land uses. Positions on the board include: owner-operator of a farming operation in Charles County, current of former licensed realtor, resident with professional land development experience, business owner-operator specializing in equestrian services, resident with land conservation experience, professional waterman, and three at-large members.
Positions will remain open until filled. A separate application must be submitted for each vacancy. Applications and a detailed list of all current vacancies are available on the Charles County Government website at www.CharlesCountyMD.gov or by contacting Carol DeSoto at 301-645-0691 or DesotoC@CharlesCountyMD.gov.
